We are currently seeking a Director, Engineering to work in our Engineering department at our headquarters in Seattle, WA.
What You Will Be Doing:
The Director, Engineering at Leafly will help shape the technology direction and culture of a small but talented engineering team working across our entire product suite, serving millions of passionate users and business partners. This is a hands-on role that will work both strategically and tactically – first helping define the forward-looking vision, then helping drive delivery of that vision. You will get to break new ground in a new industry. You’ll face complex and interesting challenges as you deliver key strategic initiatives that drive Leafly forward. You’ll get to work daily and directly with your stakeholders and see the impact your work has for our users and customers.
Responsibilities:
- Mentor, manager and grow a strong software engineering team.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement through feedback and metrics.
- Partner with CTO to develop career planning with a focus on shared growth and learning.
- Manage and drive successful delivery of features on the product roadmap.
- Continually improve our processes by implementing new tools or approaches to developer productivity and product quality
- Architect, design, build, test, and maintain new features across the entire Leafly product suite (consumer website, content platform, APIs, administrative portals, native Android & iOS apps)
- Lead by example in delivering high-quality solutions that scale and adhere to SDLC and quality best practices: estimation, design & code reviews, prototyping, multi-level testing.
- Collaborate with senior leadership team to ensure shared goals are met.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years directly managing software engineer and technical project managers
- 5+ years leading small-to-medium sized teams (2-10)
- 7+ years developing software in a professional team setting using Agile methodologies
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and think on your feet
- Strong technical leadership abilities with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to embrace, learn, and apply unknown or new technologies to new or existing problems
- Expert understanding of object oriented design principles and experience applying to large-scale solutions (C# / .NET / ASP.NET MVC preferred)
- Experience with latest web technologies, tools, and practices: Responsive design, TDD, AngularJS, LESS / SASS, TypeScript, Gulp, Karma/Mocha/Chai
- Experience developing & supporting high-scale and high-performance web applications in a cloud environment (AWS preferred)
- Comfortable working at all layers: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, web services, API Integration, SQL & NoSQL storage, Testing, Infrastructure
- BS degree in Computer Science / Engineering or similar field
