JOB PURPOSE
The Cost Accountant is a contributory member of the Finance team and will have P&L responsibility for Cura CS and all associated business services. In general, this can be further identified as being responsible for (a) calculating and analyzing financial data; (b) maintaining profit and loss statements for two business segments; (c) understanding and managing any / all balance sheet implications, and (d) recommending and maintaining a strong controls environment. They will coordinate the costing and inventory valuation functions, and conduct both variance and periodic report analyses as needed. They will be responsible for developing and documenting policies and procedures and have direct involvement in monthly financial closing and periodic audits. This person will report to the Controller and may have supervisory responsibilities of the Finance team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure proper balance sheet valuation of all inventories which includes finished goods and work in process
  • Ensure all cost of goods sold are properly classified and stated in the general ledger
  • Maintaining/updating cost accounting in ERP System – BOM’s, Routing, and Cost Estimates
  • Evaluate data collection systems, business intelligence tools, and key performance metrics to ensure information integrity and expand on metrics and tools
  • Investigate standard cost variances and communicate root cause information to management
  • Provide various monthly and quarterly inventory reports
  • Develop and monitor all inventory cycle and physical counts
  • Review and analyze inventory and margin reports, conduct research and perform analytical studies in regards to cost or variance analyses and profitability
  • Ensure the company is adequately reserved for obsolescence based on sound metrics
  • Assist in month end close activities & Reports – Preparing JE’s, Account Reconciliations
  • Serve as an advocate for continuous improvement and application of systems to Cost Accounting processes
  • Review and analyze financial trends and provide analytical reporting as requested by management
  • Mentor and provide guidance to other team members
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business with an emphasis in Finance or Accounting or equivalent experience.
  • 3-7 years of experience in cost accounting role or related
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a broad range of people from hourly employees to management.
  • Familiarity with various financial models required.
  • Requires strong quantitative and computer skills, including strong familiarity with MS Excel software.
  • Knowledge of GAAP
  • Solid written/verbal and interpersonal communications.
  • Must be comfortable making oral presentations to peers and management.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

PREFERRED

  • Cannabis Industry Experience
  • Experience with NAV
  • MBA or advanced degree
  • CPA certification
  • Audit experience
  • High growth startup experience
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and project management theory
  • Experience working in a complex and highly innovative e-commerce company
