The Washington State Department of Corrections is seeking highly motivated and talented individual for the position of Correctional Officer 1 at the Tri Cities Work Release in Kennewick, WA.

The Tri Cities Work Release is operated and completely staffed by the Department of Corrections. This facility is 24/7 facility that houses male and female offenders.
*Part-Time & On-Call Positions* Incumbents will be required to attend 6 weeks of full time paid training within 90 days after hire and will be considered for full time permanent and/or temporary vacancies as they occur. All correctional officers, including those in Part-Time or on-call positions, are provided with a benefits package including medical, dental, vision and retirement as well as paid sick leave, holiday pay and paid vacation; provided they work at least 20 hours or more each week. Duties: Tri Cities Work Release is an adult correctional facility in a minimum custody setting. This position provide safety and security, and assist in controlling, directing, and monitoring the activities of the adult offenders within the facility in accordance with established department methods and procedures.

This position performs the following work:

  • Write reports, observation and maintaining daily activity logs, assisting offenders regarding problems, programs and behavioral incidents.
  • Uses independent judgment and takes emergency action to include verbal de-escalation.
  • Maintains order and discipline, reporting of infractions and documentation.
  • Conducting facility, parameter and residential checks.
  • Observation and monitor of visitors, community members and volunteers, to include OMNI updates, per policy.
  • Conducts room and common area searches for contraband.
  • Conducts bag and pat searches and UA/BA testing.
  • Facilitates offender orientation and social outing orientation.
  • Responsible for property inventory as well as readying property for transportation and property box-up.
  • Monitor offender movements, assign and monitor offenders details, and extra duty.
  • Maintain and update variety of logs to include but not limited to infraction log, extra duty and facility log.
  • Process offender paychecks and issue receipts to offenders.
  • Assign out offender draw checks.
  • Deliver and process mail to offenders.
  • Assign linens and offender key rings to incoming offenders.
  • Oversee kitchen after hours.
  • Conduct monthly safety and sanitation inspections of first aid and post exposure kits. Inspects all fire extinguishers on monthly basis.
  • Write work orders for any repairs needed.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from high school or GED
  • Valid Driver's license
Pre-employment process includes drug testing and psychological evaluation.

Disqualifying Criteria:
  • No more than 1 termination in the last 5 years
  • No more than 1 formal disciplinary action in the last 5 years (including termination)
  • Never consumed alcohol while at work or on duty when policy or practice prohibited
  • Never impaired by Cannabis, THC, or any illegal drug, in any form, while at work or on duty
  • No consumption of Cannabis or THC in any form in the last year
  • No consumption of any illegal or non-prescribed narcotic in the last 10 years
  • No more than 1 DUI in last 5 years
  • Zero felony convictions (lifetime)
  • No dishonorable discharge (enlisted) or dismissal (officers) from any branch of the armed forces
The Corrections and Custody Officer 1 is an entry level, in-training position. Depending on qualifications of the successful candidate, this position may be filled at the Corrections and Custody Officer 1 level with a one year in-training plan. If filled at this level, the candidate will be required to successfully complete a twelve-month in-training plan before promoting to the Corrections and Custody Officer 2 level.
Monthly Salary information: (WFSE pay scale)
Corrections and Custody Officer 1: $3010 - $4013 (Monthly)
