This position is responsible for managing the contract corn and soybean grower program at their location throughout the year. This position is authorized to perform the steps necessary to ensure the responsibilities are met.
Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of grower relations including recruitment, contracts, acreage allocation, and field quality throughout the season.
- Establish and maintain relationships with new and current growers.
- Assist in training and educating growers in the policies and procedures required in seed production to provide the highest quality seed.
- Work with growers to develop sound agronomic-based tillage, chemical fertilizers, and seeding decisions.
- Assist Seed Grower Purchasing Manager as needed, for grower contract negotiation, pricing and insurance issues.
- Planning of field isolation and block setup based on plan provided by Production Manager
- Communicate with Soybean & Wheat Director to ensure proper selection of fields for planting soybeans.
- Maintain current knowledge on planting and harvesting practices as well other environmental issues related to all phases of seed production such as disease, insects, weeds, etc.
- Monitor agronomic conditions on grower fields.
- Manage operations on grower fields including planting, roguing, detasseling, chemical applications, male corn removal, and harvest
- Maintain field records on pertinent field operations performed in grower fields.
- Train production interns and production summer staff.
- Collaborate with various agencies to assure all seed quality standards are met.
- Communicate with the Processing Manager and Production Location Manager to schedule processing of soybeans.
- Coordinate and assist in soybean receiving and sampling activities.
- Inventory monitoring and reconciliation of grower bins
- Perform general seed duties as needed.
Job Requirements
1. Education and training:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Agronomics or related agricultural field.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record as determined by Beck’s automobile insurance policy.
2. Technical knowledge:
- Strong understanding of seed corn and soybean production.
- Basic computer skills.
- CDL or equivalent preferred.

4. Physical demands:
- Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds unassisted.
- Ability to pass respiratory medical clearance evaluation required.
- Ability to pass DOT physical examination and obtain Medical Examiner’s Certificate may be required.
5. Experience:
- Previous experience in the seed industry.
- Three (3) years field experience.
