Controller Job Summary:
The Controller will handle high-level accounting and oversee financial activities of the company. As head of the accounting department, Controller will lead the accounting team in the management and supervision of all aspects of accounting from payroll to tax compliance. The Controller will also assist with development of internal control policies, procedures, and financial planning as needed.
Controller Job Duties:
- Manage all aspects of accounting; billing, financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, tax compliance, and various special analyses.
- Forecast cash flow weekly to achieve optimal timing of receivables and payables
- Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements according to GAAP
- Establish, monitor, and enforce internal controls.
- Monitors financial condition; and assists with annual audits by providing information to external auditors.
- Assist in the preparation of operating budgets.
- Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; recommending corrective actions.
- Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
- Ad hoc reporting and projects as needed.
Controller Skills and Qualifications:
- Efficient and effective process management
- Good time management skills
- Fundamental understanding of financial statement preparation
- Ability to independently design sound standards and internal controls
- Able to handle budgeting, forecasting, and analyze information independently
- Software experience consisting of QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel and Word and a basic understanding of inventory and point-of-sale systems
- Able to work well with senior executives and team, as well as mentor/lead other team members
- Must be able to work under pressure and effectively manage & meet deadlines
- Public company reporting experience preferred, but not necessarily a requirement
Education:
Accounting degree required (Associates minimum, Bachelors preferred)
