Job Description:

We are seeking a hands-on Controller to join our team, one who is experienced and aspiring to be our next CFO. We were acquired by a private equity firm and are in the process of augmenting the management team and infrastructure to prepare the company to be a platform for the anticipated internal and external growth. Experience working with a PE owned company is preferred. We are looking for a motivated, dedicated, and inspired person who is willing to roll up their sleeves and help take this company to new heights. We are looking for a team player, be a good partner to the CEO and will act as a key contributor to the overall success of our company. You will report to the CEO.

Position Summary

Basic Function: The controller position is accountable for the financial, accounting and administrative operations of the company. You will be responsible for the production of financial reports, maintenance of accounting records, comprehensive set of controls and budgets, ongoing analysis of process constraints, product costing and pricing, margin analysis and offering guidance on optimal pricing, revenue management analytics, and tracing costs back to underlying activities. The Controller will work diligently to mitigate risk and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles. You will be a member of the management committee and will be instrumental in making decisions that will impact the company’s profitability. You must have experience in preparing and managing the reporting to lenders for quarterly and monthly covenant compliance matters. Must have experience in managing companies that stock inventory. The ideal candidate will also have significant experience in international imports and product distribution.

Principal Accountabilities:

Finance & Accounting

  • Supervise all accounting functions, including monthly closings, accounts receivable and payable, and preparation of annual budget
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and cash flow
  • Assist in preparation of quarterly tax projections and annual tax returns
  • Maintain fixed asset records
  • Ensure compliance with all corporate policies and procedures, GAAP
  • Responsible for all financial statements, internal and external audits, budgets, forecasts and business plans
  • Oversee daily operations of the Accounting department
  • Control and monitor all company assets
  • Banking and cash management

Administration

  • Risk Management – all company insurance requirements
  • Manage Payroll and personnel requirements and compliance matters
  • Corporate filings and records
  • Company lease and facilities
  • IT and Systems
  • Office

Reporting

  • Issue timely and complete financial statements with variance analysis (MD&A)
  • Prepare and present bank and other lender covenant compliance documents
  • Report on Budget and YOY variances and their causes and report significant issues
  • Recommend, calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
  • Coordinate the preparation of quarterly and annual corporate reporting for investors
  • Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts
  • Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations
  • Maintain margin by product reports
  • Analyze capital budgeting requests
  • Key contact for banking relationships

Transactions

  • Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner
  • Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly
  • Process payroll in a timely manner
  • Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions
  • Ensure that monthly bank reconciliations are completed
  • Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis
  • Maintain the chart of accounts
  • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
  • Ensure that State Sales Tax filings are filed/paid in a timely manner
  • Coordinate physical inventory counts and cycle counts, resolve variances
  • Review and update standard costing on a quarterly basis

Compliance

Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for annual reporting and filings

Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants

Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings

Desired Qualifications

The controller candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration and 5-10 years of progressive Accounting experience. Experience in distribution and wholesale is preferred. Experience with Epicor/Eclipse ERP is preferred, and Advanced Excel is a must. Preference will be given to candidates with Certified Public Accountant experience.

Skills

  • Ability to use a PC to setup and use accounting software, prepare spreadsheets and reports, and ensure appropriate company record keeping and reporting.
  • Ability to understand, analyze and plan manufacturing production (we are a supplier representing manufacturers).
  • Read and understand financial reports with a working knowledge of short and long term planning and forecasting and product line profitability analysis.
  • Establish and communicate performance objectives and expectations
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision
  • Ability to handle and resolve recurring problems
  • Business Analytics, pricing, product cost accounting and margin enhancement strategies
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Strong interpersonal skills are a must
