Garden Remedies (GRI) is a Massachusetts Registered Medical Marijuana Dispensary (RMD) with a cultivation facility in Fitchburg and a dispensary in Newton, MA. We are currently seeking candidates for a Controller position at our Fitchburg facility.
Controller Position Description
We are looking for an exceptional and motivated Controller to lead our financial team. It is important that you are detail oriented, a good communicator, possess strong financial skills and acumen and are eager to work in a fast-paced environment with significant responsibility and accountability.
The Controller will not only be responsible for the day-to-day financial management of the company but will also develop financial strategies with the company CEO & COO.
Duties/ Authority:
- Oversees and coordinates all accounting operations for the enterprise.
- Complies with all MA state cannabis regulations as stated in existing and new legislation; anticipates future legislation; enforces adherence to requirements; files financial reports; advises management on needed actions.
- Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
Responsibilities:
- Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures.
- Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits; provides information to external auditors.
- Prepares reports for CEO, COO and external sources and provides status of financial activity and condition by collecting and interpreting financial data.
- Conducts monthly and year-end closing of accounting records.
- Oversees and runs payroll, including timely and accurate processing of both exempt and non-exempt employees.
- Assists Department leaders in managing their budgets.
- Provides ad hoc cost analysis and support to managers, directors and the executive team.
- Assist CEO and COO with special projects such as budgets and forecasting, and other duties as required.
- Establishes and maintains excellent relations in all interactions, both within and outside of the company.
Qualifications:
- B.S. in Accounting or Finance. MBA or professional certification such as CPA or CMA a plus.
- A minimum of five (5) years' experience in a private, for-profit business. Experience in beverage, food, distribution preferred.
- High attention to detail and accuracy to ensure high quality.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and QuickBooks online.
- Working knowledge of manual and automated accounting systems.
