EDUCATION REQUIREMENT

A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or business administration with a graduate degree in business administration, accounting, economics, finance, or risk management with a curriculum developing analytical skills and teaching the latest financial analysis methods and technology.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

Five to ten (5-10) years of progressive experience in a senior-level accounting position. Experience with multiple operating companies and consolidated financial reporting. Multi-state operations experience with familiarity with sales and use tax. At least three (3) years’ experience in a publicly traded company.

PROFESSIONAL LICENSES

An active CPA or CMA license designation in Colorado or Nevada.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Thorough knowledge of and use of major GAAP accounting system for a minimum of five (5) years.
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, knowledge and familiarity with IFRS helpful.
  • Knowledge and experience in accounting system conversions, especially Quickbooks.
  • Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations and tax code.
  • Ability to effectively operate in a pre-public and rapidly growing business environment.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections.
  • Working knowledge of short and long-term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and product-line profitability analysis.
  • Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build and motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

POSITION SUMMARY

Handle day to day accounting and provide leadership and coordination of company financial planning, debt financing, and budget management functions. Ensure company accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles or those otherwise required by Canadian standards.

Generally, this position is to act as the senior accountant or controller managing and overseeing all operational functions related to accounting and finance and participate in the development and building of the Company. While external audit and tax support is used by the Company, this position is expected to handle all accounting tasks until such time that additional accounting support is needed and hired. This position reports directly to the President and CEO of the Company.

This position’s main focus is to support the accounting needs of the Company to promote growth and increased profits. A secondary focus on exemplary customer service and leadership is necessary to promote the personal and professional growth of the Company and the Company team.

The current job description is one of a senior accountant preferably familiar with agricultural operations and optimally the hemp and cannabis industry. Experience and familiarity with consumer-facing products, internet and retail store sales are also desired. This position includes administration and facilitation of every aspect of the accounting, HR and financial activities of the Company and its subsidiaries.

The tasks associated with the position include the management of financial planning, debt financing, and budget management functions as well as ensuring company accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles. Although the Company operations are currently only in Colorado, additional grow locations are being evaluated and the Company’s products are sold around the world. Again, the focus of this position is managing and growing the Company’s business and its activities; however, the overall promotion and support of the Company Companies is paramount and as other issues will be presented from time to time, this position is expected to assist and represent the interests of the Company and its subsidiaries and their respective clients. This position requires exceptional communication and leadership skills promoting the Company’s objectives, culture and standards of quality and excellence.

THE COMPANY

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The ultimate responsibility for all accounting, human resources, and finance functions rests upon this position. This position is expected to directly, or through the Company’s staff, maintain the performance and quality of the Company and expand the clients and revenues produced each year. The performance of this position will be measured by the individual performance as well as the performance of the overall group. Below is a non-exhaustive list of tasks and duties related to those services offered by the Company:

  • Direct and supervise accounting staff, participating directly as needed.
  • Direct and coordinate company financial planning and budget management functions.
  • Recommend benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance of divisions and departments.
  • Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget.
  • Direct and coordinate debt financing and debt service payments with external agencies.
  • Oversee daily operations of the accounting and finance departments.
  • Manage the preparation of the official annual report of actual revenues, transfers, and expenses.
  • Manage the preparation of financial outlooks and financial forecasts.
  • Prepare financial analysis for contract negotiations and product investment decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal budgetary reporting requirements.
  • Establish and implement short and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the department's goals and objectives.
  • Facilitate financial audits and provide recommendations for procedural improvements.
  • Maintain, analyze, and summarize general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare or supervise preparation of financial statements.
  • Coordinate year-end audits.
  • Supervise exempt and non-exempt accounting staff.
  • Present financial information to senior management and/or Board of Directors.
  • Work on special projects as needed.
  • Maintain vendor and customer relations.
  • Develop chart of accounts.
  • Advise on initiative, expansion, employees, ratios and metrics.
  • Assist in acquisitions and due diligence.
  • Implement systems and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MANAGEMENT DUTIES & TASKS

The overall management mission of the Company is to promote a flat organization where all hands are on deck when called to battle. The intent is to not build a complex hierarchy or chain of command limiting access to anyone from the CEO to receptionist. The Company is run on an open door and open information style perspective. We strive to build responsible and accountable teams that exhibit loyalty and passion for what they do and those they do it with.

It is expected that this position will be able to perform all duties he or she oversees and leads with a servant leadership style. There is no room for the “I do not do windows” mentality. When the phone rings we answer it as it is a client or potential business. When an employee has a challenge, we address it and assist them as they are the lifeblood of our organization.

REPORTING

A requirement of this position is to prepare and present weekly reports and management data to the CEO and Board. These reports will contain routine information, alerts, and exception reports to fully inform the CEO and Board of all potential issues and liabilities as well as successes for the week. These reports will also be used for presentation in the weekly staff meetings and for the purposes of coaching, discipline, and praise.

PROCESS MANAGEMENT

Process management, process mapping, and system improvement are an expected role of this position. Preparing and reviewing flow diagrams and looking for process improvements to enhance repeatable quality and production are keys to success. Working with the staff and other executives to develop new processes to accomplish tasks, where increasing efficiencies or enhancing quality are viewed as essential.

SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT

This position is expected to work closely with the CEO and technical staff and vendors to examine, maintain, and improve computer and technology systems. Monitoring and tracking system efficiencies and performance.

STAFF MANAGEMENT

This position is expected to manage day to day issues concerning staff and be involved in staffing decisions, discipline, and praise. The initial interview process and employee selection, as well as review and annual evaluation, are also tasks associated with this position. The CEO will also participate and designate other participants in these processes from time to time.

CLIENT MANAGEMENT

Client management as it relates to this position is expected to focus around customer service and retention. Improving and expanding relationships, Company loyalty and business ties between the Client and the Company are a central role in this position. Attending and participating in monthly client conference calls and discussing the Company’s performance are also a responsibility of this position. Success in this area will come from a combined personal effort and leadership in developing and promoting client relationships with the staff.

VENDOR MANAGEMENT

Accountability and performance are certainly keys to success vendor relationships; however, fiscal impact to the Company must also be recognized and managed. In cooperation with the CEO and other Company staff this position is required to assist in managing vendors making sure that the relationships are maximized and productive.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

The overall intent is for this position to participate in the fiscal management of the Company and its subsidiaries. This management will involve participation in and responsibility for several different facets of the financial management of the Company and its subsidiaries.

BUDGETARY PLANNING

It is expected that this position will participate in the preparation and analysis of the periodic budget for the Company and its clients. This process may include research and calculation of certain line items or participation in preparing projections and financial models for the coming year. These tasks will be coordinated with the CEO as well.

STAFFING

As the direct manager of the staff, this position will be engaged in staffing salaries and the need for reducing or increasing staff resources. These tasks will be coordinated with the management of Company, the CEO and Board as appropriate.

DAILY OPERATIONS

The financial management of daily operations will include the oversight and management of efficiencies and focus upon opportunities to minimize losses. Implementation of cost-saving measures and increased efficiencies or productivity campaigns will contribute to profitability and performance recognition.
