Sweet Cannabis is seeking an intermediate level Cannabis Confectioner to join our rapidly growing production facility in Portland, Oregon. Reporting to the Head Confectioner and other Senior Level Management, the Cannabis Confectioner will provide support in the areas of coordination, maintenance and utilization of a commercial kitchen and relevant equipment to produce edibles. The successful candidate will have a passion for the cannabis industry and for continuous improvement.
Job Description:
Your daily responsibilities will include:
- Responsible for weighing and mixing ingredients, processing and coating as required;
- Ensure all production equipment is cleaned and maintained routinely;
- Operate machines/equipment and perform routine tasks to produce confectionery (taffy, bonbons and chocolate bars), such as taffy pullers, tempering machines, ovens, cookers, mixers, and other industrial equipment to mass produce standardized confectionery goods;
- Follow strict health and safety guidelines;
- Consistently check the quality of baking/cooking ingredients;
- Assist in reporting of daily production and maintenance of perpetual inventory;
- Support the input materials ordering needs of the Head Confectioner when required;
- Maintain standard operating procedures at all times, communicating any deviations in standards of quality to the Head Confectioner;
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Knowledge:
- Follow strict instructions to make a variety of cannabis-infused edible products, including chocolates, taffy and infused sugar;
- Assist Head Confectioner in coordinating cross-functionally to ensure supply of cannabis and non-cannabis input and packaging materials as well as large-scale equipment;
- Good understanding of food safety and equipment safety.
Skills:
- Strong problem-solving skills, adaptable and flexible mindset which allows for quick troubleshooting;
- Detail orientation, accuracy and precision with well-developed organization skills;
- Strong math skills with ability to scale up recipes quickly;
- Strong hand-eye coordination and dexterity.
Abilities:
- Ability to prioritize parallel activities, addressing workloads in priority order;
- Ability to follow precise production instructions;
- Must be able to obtain an Oregon Marijuana Workers Card and Oregon Food Handlers Certificate;
- Ability to lift and carry heavy materials and operate heavy equipment/machinery;
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and engage in repetitive work (This is NOT a creative role);
- Ability to understand and solve basic algebraic formulas.
Other Experience and Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent;
- 1-2 years’ experience in chocolate and confectionery production; commercial kitchen experience will be considered;
- Must be 21 years of age;
- Experience working in a large factory environment or commercial kitchen considered an asset;
- Experience working in the cannabis industry considered an asset.
