Financial Comptroller

Controller SMK – Brooklyn, NY

We are looking for an experienced Controller with 5 – 10 years experience, preferably some of that in public accounting. The ideal candidate will have worked at a start up and is able to create structure around the accounting function. They should have strong management experience and be willing to lead by example. They will work closely with the management of each of entities. This position reports to the senior management team of SMK to ensure consistent and accurate reporting of all financials. Total compensation will include variable performance pay in addition to a market competitive base and benefits package. This position will be situated in Brooklyn, NY.

OVERVIEW The Financial Controller is responsible for day-to-day accounting/finance functions. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including oversight of payments, general ledger preparation, meeting regulatory deadlines, and coordination with external acountants. The Financial Controller will work closely with the company's CEO. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES * Effectively and efficiently manage all day-to-day accounting functions including A/P, A/R, payroll * Maintain general ledgers and trial balances, ensuring that monthly, quarterly and annual reporting requirements are met according to pre-determined timelines. * Provide monthly and year-end reporting to parent company for group consolidation purposes * Maintain banking relationships, coordinate payments for all vendors, manage cash requirements and liquidity, perform monthly bank reconciliations for bank accounts * Ensure all compliance requirements are met - timely filing of all tax returns and regulatory filings * Prepare and coordinate supporting documents files for external accounting team* Interpret output from POS system and translate into financial information * Respond to inquiries from CEO, and COO.

* Design and implement accounting controls. Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy. * Support team with special projects and workflow process improvements. * Assist with building out of accounting team as required * Perform other duties as assigned by the senior management team QUALIFICIATIONS * Bachelors degree from an accredited school along with a CPA * 5 -10 years of experience in financial operations/controllership related role * Knowledge of accepted accounting principles, requirements and practices (GAAP). Experienced in a high volume, high transaction setting * Strong Microsoft Office skillset and advanced usage of Excel * Experience with QuickBooks (or similar bookkeeping software) and experience with payroll systems * Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced setting. Highly efficient at completing tasks in an organized and timely manner. Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines is required * Strong verbal and written communication skills * Ability to work in a team environment and have strong interpersonal skills required * Experience in cannabis or agriculture preferred
