Compliance Officer Job Description – Sangre AgroTech

Sangre AgroTech is focused on the development of cannabis-based compounds for the treatment of human disease. The Compliance Officer oversees the Quality Assurance and Compliance Program, functioning as an independent and objective body that reviews and evaluates compliance issues/concerns within the research, development, and product development programs of Sangre AgroTech. The position ensures the management and employees are in compliance with the rules and regulations of the company and regulatory agencies, that company SOPs, policies and procedures are being followed, and that behavior in the organization meets the company’s Standards of Conduct.

The focus of this position is to:

  • Act as senior staff to monitor and report results of the compliance/ethics efforts of the company and in providing guidance for the senior management team on matters relating to compliance.
  • Together with the Corporate Compliance Committee, implement all necessary actions to ensure achievement of the objectives of an effective compliance and regulatory program

As a Sangre AgroTech Compliance Officer, your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Develops, initiates, maintains, and revises policies and procedures for the general operation of the Compliance Program and its related activities to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper practices. Manages day-to-day operation of the Program.
  • Develops and periodically reviews and updates Standards of Compliance to ensure continuing compliance with all state, local, and relevant federal standards and provides guidance to management and employees.
  • Acts as an independent review and evaluation body to ensure that compliance issues/concerns within the organization are being appropriately evaluated, investigated, and resolved.
  • Monitors, and as necessary, coordinates compliance activities of other departments to remain abreast of the status of all compliance activities and to identify trends.
  • Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk; develops/implements corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues and provides general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future.
  • Provides reports on a regular basis, and as directed or requested, to keep senior management informed of the operation and progress of compliance efforts.
  • Ensures proper reporting of violations or potential violations to duly authorized enforcement agencies as appropriate and/or required.
  • Institutes and maintains an effective compliance communication program for the organization.
  • Works with the Human Resources Department and others as appropriate to develop an effective compliance training program, including appropriate introductory training for new employees as well as ongoing training for all employees and managers.
  • Monitors the performance of the Compliance Program and related activities on a continuing basis, taking appropriate steps to improve its effectiveness.

Qualifications

Education:

  • BSc/BA in law, finance, business administration or a related field required; Master’s degree desired.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience, to include demonstrated leadership. Experience with operational, financial, quality assurance, and human resource procedures and regulations.
  • Experience in risk management.
  • Knowledge of legal requirements and controls.
  • Familiarity with cannabis industry practices and professional standards.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Integrity and professional ethics.
  • Professional certification (e.g. Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP)) is a plus.

Additional Requirements

  • Minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Possesses valid driver’s license or state ID.
  • Must pass any and all required background checks.
  • Must be and remain compliant with any and all legal or company regulations for working in the industry.
  • Must be able to lift, carry and balance up to 30 pounds (100 pounds with assistance). This job function may include walking or standing for extended periods of time, as well as stooping, bending over and/or crouching.
