The City of Redding is establishing an eligibility list to fill one Full-Time Code Enforcement Officer (Building Inspector) vacancy in the Building & Code Enforcement Division, as well as future vacancies that occur during the life of the list. The position being filled will support Code Enforcement activities related to cannabis business license regulations. Incumbents in this position may also inspect new and existing buildings and structures in all stages and types of construction, alteration, or repair, to determine and enforce conformity with all applicable laws relating to maintenance, construction, alterations, conversion, use, occupancy, safety and sanitation.
Examples of Duties
The successful candidate will perform a wide range of duties, including, but not limited to the following: Inspect buildings and structures; write correction notices and follow-up as necessary; review and check plans and specifications; answer questions from developers, contractors, and the general public; key inspection data directly into department computer system; maintain job inspection reports and files; and perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the job classification.
Typical Qualifications
Knowledge of: Techniques and methods of building inspection; International Building Code, Uniform Mechanical Code, Uniform Plumbing Code, National Electrical Code, International Fire Code, California Code of Regulations, Titles 24 and 25, applicable portions of Redding Municipal Code.
Ability to: Interact effectively with the public and employees. Interpret and enforce provisions of applicable regulations; apply technical knowledge of building trades work using sound inspection methods to examine workmanship and materials; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; and drive a City vehicle.
Education & Experience: Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying; typical education would include a high school diploma, or equivalent, and advanced technical training. Typical experience would include three years relevant experience in one of the building trades or as a general contractor.
Special Requirements: I.C.C. certification as a combination inspector required within one year of employment. Possession of the appropriate California driver's license, or the ability to acquire one within ten days of appointment.
