The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill Extra Help positions assigned to ensure compliance with the provisions of Placer County’s Cannabis Ordinance.
Primary duties will include the following:
Appointments made from this eligible list may transition to permanent status, should permanent vacancies arise at some future date.
Temporary/Extra Help assignments are limited to 999 hours (or 960 hours for CalPERS retired annuitants) in a fiscal year and are not eligible for benefits.
DEFINITIONTo enforce State and local zoning, building and housing codes through research, investigation and inspection and follow up activities, including citation issuance and court appearance; and to communicate with the public regarding code compliance and enforcement
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThis is the full journey level class within the Code Enforcement series. This class is distinguished from the Code Enforcement Officer I by the assignment of the full range of duties assigned. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the entry level.
This class is distinguished from the Supervising Code Enforcement Officer in that the latter exercises full, first-line supervision over technical and clerical staff and investigates and handles the more difficult and complex code enforcement cases.
Receives immediate supervision from assigned management or supervisory staff.

Experience and Training
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Two years of responsible experience performing duties similar to those of Code Enforcement Officer I in Placer County.
Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. Additional specialized training in law enforcement, land use, building or business regulation or a related field.

Based upon responses to the supplemental questionnaire, the applicant’s education, training and experience will be evaluated using a pre-determined formula. Scores from this evaluation will determine applicant ranking and placement on the eligible list.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENTPrior to the date of hire, applicants must undergo a fingerprint test by the Department of Justice, pass a medical examination, which may include a drug screening and possibly a psychological evaluation, sign a constitutional oath and submit proof of U.S. citizenship or legal right to remain and work in the U.S. For some positions, applicants may also be required to submit proof of age, undergo a background investigation and/or be bonded.
MODIFIED AGENCY SHOPAll new permanent employees, with the exception of sworn law enforcement and those in management and confidential groups, shall be required to join the employee organization or pay an 'Agency Fee' as a condition of employment.
SUBSTITUTE LISTSThe eligible list(s) resulting from this recruitment may be certified as a substitute list for a substantially similar classification. For this purpose, a substantially similar classification is one at a lower level in the same classification (example: entry level vs. journey) and/or a similar classification (similar work performed, similar training and experience qualifications required).
