GENERAL DEFINITION
The Chief Financial Officer oversees all financial operations for Garden Remedies, Inc. The CFO supervises the finance department including accounting, treasury, cash management, forecasting, budgeting, financial structuring, and reporting. GRI is a “B to C” and “B to B” business. The CFO also serves as the chief financial spokesperson for the organization. The CFO reports directly to the President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and works alongside the CEO and Chief Operating Officer (COO) on developing and implement corporate and financial strategies to advance our business and protect our assets
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directs, coordinates and facilitates all financial activities including accounting, forecasting, budgeting and reporting.
- Work with the President/CEO and COO on the strategic vision and initiatives, including fostering and cultivating stakeholder relationships, as well as assisting in the development and negotiation of contracts and agreements.
- Assist in performing all tasks necessary to achieve the organization's mission and help execute staff succession and growth plans.
- Provides a risk management oversight function, assessing tax, insurance, banking, and capital improvement downside risk and cash exposure.
- Complies with all MA state cannabis regulations as stated in existing and new legislation and anticipated future legislation; enforces adherence to requirements; files financial reports; advises management on needed actions.
- Provides leadership and training to the Finance team and other staff, raising awareness and knowledge of financial management matters.
- Participate in developing new business, specifically: assist the CEO and COO in identifying new funding opportunities, the drafting of prospective project budgets, and determining cost effectiveness of prospective projects and purchases.
- Lead the current ERP system implementation to SAP/Viridian specifically driving the cost accounting/inventory side of the project to ensure a seamless integration with the finance side.
- Develop cost accounting and inventory valuation methodologies to ensure complete and detailed capture of inventory valuation, product pricing, and cost of goods sold to minimize federal taxes.
- Work with the COO to ensure operational success through cost analysis support and guidance.
- Oversee the management and coordination of all financial reporting activities for the organization including revenue/expense, balance sheet and cashflow reports, reports to external agencies, development and monitoring of organizational and contracts.
- Oversee the development of monthly reports including financial analysis and cash flow projections for use by management.
- Develop and maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets of the organization and oversee all federal, state and local tax compliance.
- Oversee the annual external audit.
- Monitor banking activities of the organization.
- Ensure adequate cash flow to meet the organization's needs.
- Oversees preparation of the Quarterly and Annual Reports for investors.
- Oversee the research and implementation of cost-effective benefit plans and other fringe benefits which the organization may offer employees and potential employees with the goal of attracting and retaining qualified individuals.
- Assist in the design, implementation, and timely calculations of wage incentives, commissions, and salaries for the staff.
- Oversees business insurance plans, including periodic and annual review and renewals.
- Performs additional tasks as directed by CEO.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- BS in Accounting or Finance required. MBA or professional certification such as CPA or CMA strongly preferred.
- 10+ years of progressively responsible experience for a medium-sized company or division of a large corporation.
- A minimum of five-year experience in a director level role or higher.
- Highly proficient in advanced Excel modeling including IRR calculations/analysis, investment waterfalls and promote calculations, equity multiples, sensitivity analysis, etc.
- SAP implementation experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated professionalism and business acumen.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Working knowledge of manual and automated accounting systems.
- Capital markets knowledge.
- Strong “people skills” and EQ capacity.
Knowledge of:
- Complex cost accounting methodologies preferably in a production environment where processes and labor drive the cost of goods sold rather than materials and assembly.
- Federal, state and local income, excise, property, payroll, sales and use taxes.
- Generally Accepted Accounting Principles including current pronouncements and standards.
- SAP or advanced ERP or MAS system implementation experience strongly preferred
Ability to:
- Foster and cultivate business relationships and opportunities, both with external sources and internal staff.
- Create and assess financial statements, budget documents, key financial indicators and analysis.
- Recognize and be responsive to the needs of all clients of the organization, including customers, suppliers, strategic partners, investors, the Board of Directors, local and state governments, and employees.
- Supervise staff, including regular progress reviews and plans for improvement.
- Communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.
