The Position
MedPharm Iowa is seeking a Cannabis Cultivator who will manage the cannabis grow operation. The Cannabis Cultivator will lead the other cultivators and be responsible for developing and executing breeding, selection, and optimization strategies to increase the production of specific molecules in MedPharm Iowa’s cannabis plants.
The Work
- Manage a large-scale commercial cannabis grow operation.
- Perform and/or supervise all required duties in the grow operation, including, without limitation: propagating; planting; watering; tissue culturing; cloning; transplanting; feeding plants; defoliating; cropping; topping; flushing; managing biosafety measures; trimming; packaging; disposing of waste; breeding; and managing inventory.
- Implement and modify grow operation standard operating procedures (“SOPs”).
- Implement and modify plant nutrient regimens.
- Manage training of cultivation team.
- Manage sampling and testing procedures, including water, media, and solution(s).
- Manage waste disposal according to industry standards and regulatory agencies.
- Quantify and qualify data regularly, while following SOPs and other company policies.
- Maintain accurate daily activity records and operation logs as directed using designated software.
- Prepare crop inspection reports and pre-harvest estimates for all crops.
- Manage cleanliness and organization of all equipment, facility maintenance, and trouble-shoot as necessary.
- Be on call 24/7 to monitor growth room alarm systems.
- Develop methods for reducing spend and perform duties within budgetary restrictions.
- Comply with all company policies, including confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements.
- Provide tours and demonstrations of the growth rooms and laboratory to customers and government officials.
The Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in horticulture, agronomy, or a related field.
- Two (2) plus years of experience in a large-scale commercial grow operation.
- Two (2) plus years of experience in cannabis cultivation.
- Proficient in English with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent analytical abilities and high attention to detail.
- Must be team-oriented, reliable, and maintain good attendance.
- Strong project management, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively under time constraints as necessary.
- Ability to lift at least fifty (50) pounds, work in hot and cold environments, stand for extended periods of time, and walk, bend, and kneel.
The Details – this position is considered fulltime, exempt, and is located in Des Moines, Iowa. Some travel will be required for industry events and training.
