Center Greenhouse is looking for experienced candidates that are qualified to work in our Growing Department as a Finished Material Section Grower, focusing on annual and perennial growing. If hired, you will play a key role in the success of the Powerflowers™, Monrovia™, and Stepables™ product lines. This position will have an impact in our success for the Independent Garden Center and Landscaper markets.
SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS
- Must be a Self-Starter.
- Is kind-of a plant-geek, but has a personality.
- Previous greenhouse growing experience, preferably with growing annuals and perennials, or an Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, or equivalent study.
- Ability to measure, mix, and apply fertilizers, fungicides, and insecticides.
- Ability to drag a hose without tripping yourself up or strangling a co-worker.
- Ability to move plants within the range and be on your feet for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work with our Head-Grower and other section growers to fulfill the product timing required.
- Desire to learn from and strengthen the team to make the team better.
- Ability to take direction.
- Ability to speak and read English (if that’s what you call plant descriptions).
- Is willing to work some weird hours since plants don’t know it’s the weekend or recognize our holidays. We have peaks and valleys in our seasons and plants don’t always cooperate when asked. We give flexibility when seasonal demands allow, but require that you “make hay when the sun shines.”
- Ability to count past 10 without taking off your shoes. This will be vital for the inventory recording aspects of the job.
- Reliable means of transportation to get to and from work.
