Job Description:

Founded in 1974, North Atlantic Books (NAB) is a leading independent nonprofit publisher in Berkeley, CA. We are seeking an Associate Publicist to join our team in promoting titles in key areas like health & wellness, personal growth, holistic lifestyle, and spirituality; and in emerging categories like social justice, cannabis, and trauma and somatics.

The role of the Associate Publicist is to spread the word about NAB’s content, grow our audience of readers, and nurture and maintain relationships with media. This includes creating and implementing publicity campaigns for given titles and/or genres of books; fostering strong relationships with NAB’s communities and stakeholders; obtaining coverage for NAB authors; supporting online marketing projects; and interfacing with other publicity, marketing, and digital sales staff to promote NAB’s titles.

Responsibilities:
Develop and implement publicity campaigns for NAB frontlist (and occasional backlist) titles
Cultivate and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with media and other key stakeholders
Liaise with authors to provide guidance and support in the publicity and marketing process
Assist with social media as needed
Develop and write promotional content for the NAB newsletter and blog, and support digital marketing initiatives
Pitch and present frontlist titles to the Penguin Random House sales team
Represent NAB at trade shows, festivals, and at other outreach opportunities
Work with publicity interns and assist with managing their workflow at NAB
Handle administrative tasks, like publicity reporting and galley/review copy mailings as needed
Assist authors in booking events and soliciting local media coverage

Qualifications:
2-3 years relevant job experience in publicity, most especially in publishing or book promotion
Bachelor’s degree
Proven publicity track record
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Excellent project management and organizational skills
Strong attention to detail
Ability to multi-task and prioritize within a deadline-oriented environment
Excellent proofreading and copyediting skills
Excellent social media skills
Comfort in a Mac-based work environment
Knowledge of/interest in North Atlantic Books’ genres
Knowledge of/experience with Adobe Creative Suite highly preferred
