Summary/Objective
Plant Molecular Biologist is responsible for leading applied plant biological research in a controlled environment Cannabis growing facility to understand and optimize factors influencing vegetative and reproductive plant growth and development and its effects on enhancing the accumulations of different biochemical compounds of interest. Leading in the design and execution of experiments, expert data analysis and timely reporting are critical requirements for this position. The candidate will work collaboratively with Plant Breeders, Plant Biochemists, Agronomists and Cultivation Managers in leading a futuristic research program that aligns with company’s goals, mission and values.

Design and execute appropriate experiments to investigate the role of light, temperature, nutrition and other biotic and abiotic factors in influencing plant growth and development in a controlled environment growing facility
Responsible for collecting, analyzing and reporting data as required to further advance the knowledge in indoor cultivation of Cannabis.
Monitors, evaluates and improves cultivation techniques of new cultivars and helps with optimizing cultivation practices by working collaboratively with Plant Breeders, Agronomists and Cultivation Managers
Responsible for timely publishing of research reports, documentations of best management practices, development of a communication and education plan to share findings with Cultivation Staff and key stakeholders
Routinely visits experimental units, collects accurate and timely data, and makes sure the progress of experiments are consistent with expectations
Contributes to research discovery process by identifying new research projects that provide unique supply solutions
Responsible for the annual research planning and prioritization processes, budgeting and supervising of staff involved in the applied research program
Asists the Agronomists and Plant Health Manager in identifying and managing plant growing issues and challenges
Working collaboratively with the Agronomy and Extraction teams, helps to determine best practices to optimize cultivation and extraction methods
Provides training and guidance to cultivation personnel in implementing new cultural practices and crop management techniques
Documents applied research data in secure database platforms

Required Education and Experience
Must be at least 21 years of age
Master’s degree in Horticulture, or related degree, or equivalent experience
Demonstrated applied research experience in horticultural production or equivalent
Management experience in production agriculture
Leadership skills building teams in a highly collaborative environment
