Position Description

The Analytical Manager’s primary responsibility is the identification and measurement of cannabinoid concentrations to aid in the production of highly refined cannabis extracts and formulated products. In addition, analytical manager will use GC/FID analysis to characterize terpene profiles in different strains to aid in cultivation and formulation of strain specific preparations. Duties include botanical sample preparation, interpretation of data, communication of results to production team, ongoing quality control analysis, and associated paperwork and record keeping.

The Analytical Manager is also tasked with managing any laboratory personnel, service and maintenance of all equipment and instrumentation, and ensuring the lab is organized, clean and well stocked for operation. The manager will be expected to maintain a safe working environment. Additionally, they will participate in research and formulation projects and is expected to offer ideas and insight beyond functioning reliably at repetitive tasks. Attention to detail is an essential component of this position.

Education and Knowledge

  • BS or higher in Chemical or Biological Sciences
  • Analytical chemistry experience or academic background is required
  • Familiarity with preparation, running and interpretation of HPLC and GC chromatograms and maintenance of analytical instrumentation
  • Experience with environmental, natural products, food, agricultural or pharmaceutical analysis and testing, a plus
  • Knowledge and fluency with computers
  • Familiarity with analytical software, a plus

Responsibilities Include

  • Preparation of botanical samples and subsequent potency measurement through HPLC analysis
  • Operation, maintenance and upkeep of GC/FID system for strain terpene profiling
  • Tracking of samples and maintenance of detailed records using established record keeping procedures
  • Becoming familiar and remaining compliant with all Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission statues and regulations
  • HPLC method implementation and troubleshooting
  • Management of quality control and quality assurance throughout the facility
  • Engage in research projects as directed by executive management.
  • Present ideas and insight beyond functioning reliably in conducting repetitive tasks.
  • Assist with policy deployment in the areas of quality improvement, cost reduction, complete and on-time delivery, safety, and customer satisfaction, as directed by executive management.
  • Understand, follow and assist in implementing all established safety procedures.
  • Efficiently communicate sample readiness/results to production management and staff.
