Analytical Lab Manager.The Analytical Lab Manager is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of technical laboratory operations. The Analytical Lab Manager assures reliable data through the following activities: monitoring quality control, corroborating the analysis performed, and overseeing demonstrations of capability for laboratory analysts and technicians. The Analytical Lab Manager certifies that personnel with appropriate educational and/or technical background perform all tests for which the laboratory is accredited.
The Analytical Lab Manager is also responsible for all electronic records and deliverables. He/She also ensures that all electronic back-up records are properly stored and easily retrieved. He/She helps to manage the LIMS system and its interface with Seed-to-Sale tracking software, and releases data for inclusion in Certificates of Analyses to the clients and the State.
- The analytical lab manager also serves as a testing analyst for a Cannabis Testing Facility with expertise in either LC-MSMS or GC-MS analytical instrumentation and method development.
- The analytical lab manager for a Cannabis Testing Facility must meet one of the following qualification requirements:
- The analytical lab manager must hold a master’s degree in analytical chemistry or organic chemistry and have at least one year of full-time laboratory experience in a regulated laboratory environment performing analytical scientific testing in which the testing methods were recognized by an accrediting body.
- The analytical lab manager must hold a bachelor’s degree in analytical chemistry or organic chemistry and have at least three years of full-time laboratory experience in a regulated laboratory environment performing analytical scientific testing.

Responsibilities of the Lab Manager:
- Ensure adherence to written standard operating procedures (SOPs) used to perform the tests reported;
- Ensure that SOPs developed and used for each of the tests performed in the laboratory provide quality laboratory services for all aspects of test performance, which includes the pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of testing;
- Ensure that the validation of test methods are up to date to establish the accuracy, precision, and other pertinent performance characteristics of the method;
- Ensure that the laboratory successfully executes approved Proficiency Testing on a bi-annual basis for all test methods;
- Ensure that the quality control and quality assessment programs are observed by all analysts in the laboratory;
- Ensure the that all analytical instrument maintenance is performed per specifications in the Quality Management System;
- Ensure that any remedial actions are documented whenever significant deviations from the laboratory's established performance specifications are identified, and that test results are reported only when the system is functioning properly;
- Ensure that reported test results include the information required for interpretation;
- Provide consultation as necessary to the laboratory's clients on matters relating to the quality of the test results reported and their interpretation of said results;
