Agency Profile:
The Washington State Attorney General's Office (AGO) provides excellent, independent, and ethical legal services to the State of Washington and protects the rights of its people. The chief legal office for the state of Washington, the AGO's attorneys and staff in 31 legal divisions and 12 locations across the state provide legal services to roughly 200 state agencies, boards and commissions.

Division Profile
The Government Compliance & Enforcement Division (GCE) is comprised of 26 attorneys and 20 professional staff. Staff provide litigation representation and legal advice to the State Auditor, State Insurance Commissioner, Department of Financial Institutions, the Gambling, Horse Racing, and Human Rights Commissions, Office of Minority and Women's Business Enterprises, Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission, and Tax Preference Board. In addition, GCE prosecutes regulatory enforcement and forfeiture violations for the Department of Financial Institutions, the Gambling, Horse Racing, Human Rights, and Public Disclosure Commissions, Office of Minority and Women's Business Enterprises, Washington State Patrol, the State Lottery, Liquor and Cannabis Board, State Executive and Legislative Ethics Boards, Certified Professional Guardian Board of the Administrator for the Courts and the Criminal Justice Training Commission. It also prosecutes actions against health care providers licensed by a board or commission on behalf of the Department of Health. GCE is located in Olympia on the Capitol Campus. The office has direct access to downtown Olympia.
Duties

This position supports and contributes to the AGO mission and strategic plan by providing administrative and professional direction and support to the Government Compliance and Enforcement Division (GCE), ensuring the highest standards of ethics, excellence and effectiveness throughout the division. The Administrative Operations Manager (AOM) manages non-legal administrative functions of GCE, including responsibility for daily operations, budget planning and oversight, supervision of legal assistant staff and development and implementation of policies and procedures in coordination with the Division Chief. The position has latitude and discretion for making decisions and applying judgment guided by the Division Chief and the AGO and division policies, procedures, best practices, guidelines and regulations.

The AOM participates as a member of the division management team and has direct supervision of two legal assistant supervisors as well as second line supervision of nine additional legal assistants.

Qualifications

The strongest candidates will possess a Bachelor's degree in business administration or allied field and three years of supervising, leading, mentoring, coaching or training staff in a legal or judicial setting; OR A combination of seven years of legal office experience and three years of supervising, leading, mentoring, coaching or training staff in a legal or judicial setting.

Demonstrate 3-5 years of Successful Experience in:

  • Law office management
  • Supervisory techniques
  • Human Resource management

Demonstrate knowledge of:
  • Paralegal and Legal Secretary practices, policies and procedures
  • Management principles and practices, including training and supervision
  • Organizational development
  • Strategic planning

Demonstrate ability to:
  • Develop and implement long and short range plans
  • Develop, monitor, and implement a budget
  • Develop internal operating procedures
  • Conduct effective meetings
  • Organize, prioritize and manage a large number of projects and diversified work groups
  • Effectively communicate both orally and in writing
  • Work independently
  • Train subordinates on office and court procedures
  • Effectively use Microsoft Office Suite applications, case management systems, and databases

Compensation
This is a WMS Band 1 position. The annual compensation is $60,000 - $75,000 depending on qualifications. Washington State employees are offered a benefit package that includes retirement, options for deferred compensation and a full array of health, dental and life insurance coverage.
