Greenhouse Grower Assistant

Longwood Gardens has openings for part-time Greenhouse Grower Assistants to join the Greenhouse Production team. Individuals in this position are responsible for assisting with the production of seasonal flowering plants for use in horticultural displays at Longwood Gardens. These individuals will join a team of 4 full-time Growers and 5 part-time Horticulturist Assistants, producing 1,400 unique floral crops in 4.5 acres of greenhouses. Responsibilities include: All aspects of crop production including staking, tying, pinching/pruning, sowing seed, sticking cuttings, potting, watering, fertilizing, soil mixing and irrigation maintenance. Assisting with the upkeep and cleanliness of work areas. Grooming plants as they are prepared for display throughout the gardens. Assisting with maintaining our orchid display, drawing from a collection of over 6,000 orchids representing over 2,000 different kinds. Transporting potted plants to and from growing areas. Working with and around trucks, lift gates, forklifts, and utility vehicles. The successful candidates will be effective working as part of a team as well as independently. This position requires the ability to work in all weather conditions, lift at least 50lbs, sit, stand, walk for long periods of time and carry items as needed to complete assigned tasks. A valid driver's license is required.
