Job Description:
The Grower position is responsible for assisting in the management of crop growing operations for the greenhouse. This position is also responsible for the proper care of the greenhouse, including the principles and practices of plant cultivation, propagation, and protection.
Essential Functions:
Discuss plant growing activities with Head Grower that are consistent with planned production schedules
Monitor growing conditions and discuss changes in humidity, moisture, temperature and other cultivation procedures with Head Grower to ensure conformance with quality control standards
Prepare space required for planned production
Determine nutrient and watering/moisture requirements
Responsible for identifying crop issues and diagnosis of unknown health or damage problems
Maintain records of crop activities and observations, including organic pesticide applications and growth records
Must learn fundamentals of Environmental Control System and be able to perform basic program changes, run graphs and interpret data that relate to system
Assist in training new employees in growing techniques and activities
Maintain current knowledge of growing techniques and technologies
Performs other related duties and projects as business needs require at the direction of management
Job Requirements:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture or related field or;
Associates Degree in Horticulture or related field with 1-2 years’ experience or;
Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in Greenhouse Growing
Communication Skills:
Must possess proficient English skills, both written and verbal
Ability to communicate clearly with employees, management, customers and vendors
Ability to interpret product testing results and apply necessary actions
Ability to convey information in a clear and concise manner
Ability to communicate effectively in a culturally diverse business environment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to calculate figures, amounts, portions, percentages and volume in relation to the application of organic fertilizers, chemicals and water.
Knowledge and understanding of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the horticulture environment.
Knowledge of various plant materials and applications.
Ability to work in a fast paced environment and under tight deadlines.
